Private Clubs
Clubs with websites are semi-private and have different approaches to inviting new members depending on their jurisdiction.
As always, proceed with care when investing in anything.
This is especially so with private investment clubs.
The risks are considerable and may include lack of full disclosure, technical problems, regulatory issues, natural disasters, bank failures, human error, sickness or death on the part of the principals, internet failures, fraud, incompetence, and more.
It is not always possible to get full due diligence on private clubs.
I ignore 99% of the 'opportunities' that come to me and have learned to be quite selective as to what I allow to be listed on this site.
I select clubs with history that I hope will continue into the future. However, since these clubs are often engaged in stock options and FOREX trading and other riskier type investments you must keep in mind always that:
PAST RESULTS DO NOT INDICATE FUTURE PERFORMANCE
I try to stick to clubs that have at least a six month track record, appear to have competent management who I can easily contact or know people who can easily contact them.
I also try to get as much information as possible and research the experiences of my membership. I will often watch a club's performance for over a year before introducing them to this list. Some are truly private invitation only and require you to make contact with me and request the information from me.
In the end, however, this information is here only for your educational purposes and YOU must be responsible for doing your own due diligence and assessing the probabilities of success and longevity. And you must be responsible for developing sound money management practices and exit strategies to keep you out of trouble.
I always advise that you go in with funds you can really afford to lose and/or get your principal out as soon as possible. With the kind of returns we are used to here even a small sum grows fairly quickly.
One way to make high risk investing less risky is to always preserve your capital and have a clear exit strategy for your principal. You are fully responsible for your own exit strategies and capital preservation.
Just like in the stock market, knowing when to buy is one thing, knowing when to sell is another.
Before venturing into any club whether on this list or found elsewhere try to choose arrangements where you can start to pull money out right away. Waiting a year to see any kind of return is just too risky in most cases unless it is a real estate based arrangement and you can verify there is security in some form.
You must determine the best strategy for you. And sound money management should be at the core of your strategy.
I suggest to at least begin studying MoneyMinding if you have not completed all 12 Steps yet.
In this way, IF you lose money it will be in the context of a plan. And, IF you win big it will again be in the context of a sound financial plan.
Having a plan for success usually includes some acceptance of occasional loss. No one wins the money game all the time. But, if you have a money management strategy that has a high probability that you will gain more than you lose then you can do very well mixing in high risk investments into your portfolio.
RISK DISCLOSURE: It should be understood that futures trading and investing in private clubs involves high risk. There is always a relationship between high reward and high risk. Any type of trade speculation that can yield an unusually high return on investment is subject to unusually high risk. Usually private clubs engage in this kind of speculative investing to some extent. Only surplus funds should be placed at risk and anyone who does not have such funds should not participate in private clubs where you lose control of your money.
